What is BillMyLandlord?
BillMyLandlord is an AI-powered tool that helps NYC renters resolve disputes with their landlords. You describe your situation, and we analyze it against NYC tenant law, assess your legal position, and generate the right documents — from a simple email draft to a formal demand letter.
Is this legal advice?
No. BillMyLandlord provides educational information about tenant rights and document preparation services. We are not a law firm, and no attorney-client relationship is created. For legal advice specific to your situation, consult a licensed attorney. We list free and affordable NYC tenant lawyers on our resources page.
How is this different from ChatGPT or other AI tools?
We're purpose-built for NYC tenant disputes. Our AI is grounded in 9 verified NYC housing statutes (not hallucinated from memory), shows confidence levels on every assertion, tells you exactly which facts it relied on, and flags what information is missing. Generic AI tools don't have this legal grounding or transparency.
Can I use this outside of New York City?
Not yet. Our legal analysis is specifically built for NYC housing law — rent stabilization, HPD complaints, NYC Housing Court procedures, and city-specific statutes. We plan to expand to other cities in the future.
How It Works
What do I need to get started?
Just a description of your situation in your own words (minimum 50 characters). You can optionally upload evidence — screenshots of texts with your landlord, photos of damage, your lease, emails — anything relevant. The more you provide, the stronger the analysis.
What files can I upload?
Photos (JPG, PNG, HEIC), PDFs, and text files. Maximum 10 files, 20MB each. Our AI can read text from screenshots, extract information from lease PDFs, and describe damage in photos. Do not upload documents containing Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or other sensitive identifiers.
How long does the analysis take?
Usually 30-60 seconds. The AI reads your description and uploaded documents, analyzes them against NYC tenant law, and produces your assessment. After payment, document generation takes another 30-60 seconds.
What do I get for free?
Before payment, you get: a severity assessment, a 2-3 sentence summary of your situation, one key legal right that applies to you, one recommended next step, and the reasoning behind our recommendation. The full analysis, detailed rights, and generated documents are behind payment.
How accurate is the AI assessment?
We take accuracy seriously. Our AI only cites from a verified set of NYC housing statutes (not recalled from memory), and every assertion includes a confidence level — high, medium, or low. We also show you exactly which facts we relied on and what information is missing. That said, AI can make mistakes, and you should always verify legal citations independently.

Pricing depends on what your situation needs — not an upsell. Quick Draft (email draft for simple issues): $9. Negotiation Pack (counter-proposals and talking points): $19. Is this a subscription?
No. Every payment is one-time for one case. No recurring charges, no hidden fees.
Can I get a refund?
If you experience a technical error that prevents delivery of your report, contact us for a full refund. Quality concerns are reviewed case-by-case. Email support@billmylandlord.com.
Do you have a free trial or promo code?
We occasionally offer promotional codes for free access. Follow us on social media or check our site for current offers.
Documents & Output
Should I send the generated documents as-is?
No — all documents are drafts. You should review every document carefully, fill in all [PLACEHOLDER] fields, verify dates and facts, and personalize the tone before sending. We make this clear throughout the process.
What kind of documents do you generate?
Depending on your situation: professional email drafts to your landlord, negotiation counter-proposals with talking points, formal demand letters citing NYC statutes, HPD/DHCR complaint filing guidance, evidence timelines, emergency action checklists, and follow-up templates.
Can I edit the documents?
Yes. You can copy any document to your clipboard and edit it in your preferred app before sending. We recommend doing this for every document.
Will I get a copy of my report?
Your report is accessible via the case URL for 30 days. If you provided your email at checkout, we also email you a copy with all documents included.
Privacy & Security
Is my information secure?
Yes. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Files are stored in private cloud storage. Payment is processed by Stripe — we never see your card details. We do not sell or share your personal data.
Do you use my data to train AI?
Your uploaded documents are used solely for your case analysis and are not used to train AI models.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Contact privacy@billmylandlord.com and we'll delete your case data, uploaded files, and any associated information.
